The Dangers of Not Having Auto Insurance
Nobody wants to pay for car insurance but it is something that has to be done. Nevertheless there are always a few people who try to get away without having any coverage. This is a big mistake because there are some pretty big risks involved. Given that these risks range from large fines to complete financial ruin it is really not worth it to drive without car insurance.
The biggest risk of not having auto insurance is that you will cause an accident and be liable for a large sum of money. If you are the cause of an accident you are financially responsible for the results. This can range from the cost of having to have somebody’s car repaired to the cost of providing fulltime medical care for the rest of the accident victim’s life. In the latter case the cost can run into the millions so you are clearly going to need to have insurance to cover it, otherwise you will lose all of your assets to pay for it.
Of course there is also a pretty good chance that you will injure yourself if you cause an accident. This could leave you with some very large expenses and unable to work. If that is the case the only way that you are likely to be able to support yourself will be with the money that you get from the insurance claim. This is a pretty good reason to make sure that you have car insurance, since you don’t want to find yourself unable to pay for the care that you need.
There is also a risk that your car can be damaged or stolen. Cars get damaged all the time and theft is a pretty big risk as well. Given the cost of modern cars losing your vehicle in this way is going to cost you a lot of money. Oddly most people are more concerned about making sure their insurance covers this than they are in making sure that it covers medical care. Regardless it is an important reason to make sure that you have car insurance.
Another good reason to make sure that you have car insurance is that it is legally required. Every year the cost of paying for the damage that uninsured drivers do is something that the government has to cover, therefore they have a vested interest in getting uninsured drivers off of the road. As a result the penalties for getting caught are quite serious. There are large fines and if you are a repeat offender you can expect to lose your license. The police are really cracking down on uninsured drivers so it is becoming harder and harder to get away with not having it. Quite frankly given that the fines are likely to be more than the cost of getting the insurance it is really not worth the risk of not having it.
